An EGT Open Source License, EGT OSL, is a licensed way to authorize a commercial entity to use and develop Jade for commercial and profit purposes. With out such a license, it is illegal and unlawful to use Jade for commercial purposes.

EGT OSL, is a yearly licensed document that authorizes a commercial entity to use Jade for commercial purposes only after certain conditions have been met. This document allows Jade to track the commercial entities using Jade for commercial purposes and ensure their compliance with community chosen standards.

In order to be permitted to use Jade for commercial uses a respectable commercial entity can apply for a license by communicating with EGT and paying the non-refundable License Application Fee. This fee depends on use and size of development project and can range from a few hundred dollars to a limit of $100k as according to the EGT Code of Air.

The code will be checked thoroughly by an authorized EGT Systems Analyst to ensure that the use of Jade code is in a safe environment that contains no spy-ware, viruses, and malicious code. When that has completed EGT will request that any changes you make to the Jade application itself become available, or at least partially available. For instance if you have added Jade to your accounting framework and did not make many application modifications, EGT would not ask for any code to be released. In another example, if you added functionality for Jade to edit XML documents with real cool formatting, EGT may ask that this gets released as a plug-in or source code itself.

When the terms have been ironed out by EGT, EGT will than tell you the amount of the license cost per year, and you will have to agree to it. In most cases the same amount you payed for the Application Fee will be charged yearly, except for the first year. the first you will be charged a very small amount for EGT to finalize the transaction.
